Summary

This report presents the results of an archaeological assessment and site file search in the vicinity of a proposed construction project in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona. The assessment and search were requested by the City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department and were conducted under an on-call archaeological services contract between the City of Phoenix and SWCA.

The search was conducted at the request of the City of Phoenix, prior to construction of a bridge across Grand Canal near 23rd Avenue and Fairmount Avenue in the center of the northern quarter of Section 25.

Several large Hohokam communities are present within one mile of the proposed project and a network of canals also passes through the area. A single prehistoric canal is reported within the project area and may be impacted by the proposed construction.
