An Archaeological Survey of Three Proposed County Road Relocations Anderson and Abbeville Counties, South Carolina, Road Relocations in Abbeville and Anderson Counties 1978-1979

Summary

This report documents an archaeological reconnaissance and intensive survey conducted on the sites of proposed county road relocations in Anderson and Abbeville Counties, South Carolina. The road relocations are scheduled for construction as a part of the proposed Richard B. Russell Reservoir project, and an archaeological assessment was required prior to initiation of construction. Two of the surveyed road relocations involved expansion and upgrading of existing roads, while one included 1383.8 meters (4540 feet) of new corridor.

The survey identified a single badly disturbed archaeological site that will be impacted by project construction. Assessment of that site indicated that it had been destroyed by bulldozing, and no additional investigation was recommended.
