Summary
Harry Diamond Laboratories (HDL) is the largest laboratory in the US Army Laboratory Command (LABCOM), which is a major subordinate command of the US Army Materiel Command (AMC). HDL serves as the lead facility for the study of fluidics, nuclear-effects technology research, and the development of electronic fuzing for projectiles and missiles. The Adelphi Laboratory Center, comprising 136.68 acres, is located in Adelphi, Maryland, a northeast suburb of Washington, DC. Adelphi serves as the administrative headquarters of HDL as well as the headquarters for LABCOM. Among the three facilities, Adelphi serves as the principal developer of electronic fuzing for projectiles and missiles. The Woodbridge Research Facility (WRF) is located 25 miles southwest of Washington, DC, on 578.85 acres in eastern Prince William County, Virginia. WRF's main responsibility is to conduct research on the effects of nuclear weapon-generated electro-magnetic pulse (EMP). The Blossom Point Field Test Facility is located approximately 50 miles south of Washington, DC, on Cedar Neck Point, Charles County, Maryland. The installation occupies approximately 1600 acres, or 2.5 square miles. Activities at Blossom Point include testing fuzes, explosive and pyrotechnic devices, and electronic telemetry systems.
This document is designed to be of use to multiple audiences who are concerned with the management or preservation of the cultural resources contained within the limits of Harry Diamond Laboratories (HDL). These audiences include the US Army Laboratory Command (LABCOM), HDL staff, State and Federal cultural resource managers, professional archeologists, and the general public.
