Summary

An inventory and evaluation of archaeological and historic resources at Travis Air Force Base, which occupies an area of 5,020 acres in Solano County, California, was conducted by Argonne National Laboratory. Four off-base facilities totaling 300 acres were also included in the inventory. Existing site files and reports, historic records and maps, aerial photographs, and other sources were consulted for background information on the base and the surrounding area. A pedestrian survey of 657 acres and limited shovel testing of potential historic locations were

conducted in 1993 and 1995. Military structures constructed before 1947 were documented.

Results of the basewide archaeological investigations include some evidence of six historic archaeological locations (five on the base proper and one at Water Well II). No prehistoric remains were encountered. No pre-1947 military structures were recommended eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.

Data recovered from the six historic locations identified in the survey indicate that none of the locations would meet evaluation criteria A-D for eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places. These locations have been extensively disturbed and do not contain sufficient artifactual material to warrant further investigation.
