Results of Archaeological Monitoring and Discovery within the Boundaries of Las Moradas, AZ T:12:3(ASM), during a Residential Rehabilitation Project, Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona
Author(s): Leigh Davidson
Year: 2016
Summary
This report presents the results of archaeological monitoring during grounddisturbing activities for the installation of a sanitary sewer line, including the excavation of a trench within the interior of the residence, and excavation of a trench in the yard to connect with an existing sewer line. The project involved excavation of 7.7 m of trenches inside the house and backyard. The trenches ranged from 0.52 to 0.9-m deep and were 0.45 to 0.7-m wide. Trenching inside the house was located in the kitchen and bathroom. As the property is located within the boundaries of the prehistoric village site of Las Moradas, AZ T:12:3(ASM), LSD was requested to monitor ground-disturbing activities.
Archaeological monitoring was conducted during ground-disturbing activities for a sanitary sewer line installation at a private residence that included monitoring inside the house and in the yard where there is a connection to an existing sewer line. Field investigators examined the exposed substrate to assess whether intact cultural deposits were present. Twenty-five prehistoric ceramics were observed within the excavated trench spoils, but no features were identified within the trench profiles.
