Summary

The goal of this study is to examine the status of cultural resources research and development of targets in the center portion of Kawich Valley. The project area or Area of Potential Effect (APE) for this review is called the Range 74 Kawich Valley Target Disturbance Zone (R74 TDZ), depicted in Maps 1 and 2 and defined as 51,000 acres in size. The purpose of this study was defined by five objectives. 1) Define the boundaries of the target zone in Kawich Valley, Range 74C, characterized by live and inert ordnance target footprints. 2) Calculate the number of previously inventoried acres and area affected by target footprints. 3) Evaluate the sampling adequacy of the inventoried acreage as valid and representative for this portion of Kawich valley. 4) Discuss the level of recent research in the mountains of the north NTTR. 5) Assess the sampling data, potential to locate eligible sites, and the potential to reduce future inventory for federal target actions in the zone.
