Author(s): Jarrod Burks; Garrett Welch; Alan Potter; Paul Demers; Janice McLean; Shannon Ryan
Year: 2019
Summary
In June 2016, R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc. (RCG&A) completed geophysical survey investigations at three Apache prisoner-of-war (POW) cemeteries (Bailtso, Beef Creek, and Chief Chihuahua) at Fort Sill Military Reservation. These cemeteries are located near the confluence of Beef and Frisco creeks in Fort Sill’s East Range. All three cemeteries are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. RCG&A conducted the geophysical surveys at these three cemeteries using three instruments: a magnetometer, a ground-penetrating radar, and an electrical resistance meter. The data from these instruments allowed investigators to identify probable and possible unmarked graves at each of the Apache POW cemeteries. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District Contract No. W912BV-10-D-2011, Task Order No. 0011, Task 7.6 awarded to ALL Consulting, LLC (ALL).
