Summary

Under contract to Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District (SRP), Northland Research, Inc. (Northland) has completed a Class I cultural resources records search for the proposed SRP Copper Crossing Energy Center (CCEC) generating station located in the Town of Florence, Pinal County, Arizona. The new generating station is intended to meet SRP's projected growth in demand for power.

The purpose of this Class I review is to identify and assess any cultural resources located both within the area of direct impact and within a 3 .5-mile buffer zone around the proposed CCEC facility. As requested by SRP, the Class I records check comprised three levels of research. The first level consisted of identifying cultural resources within the actual 545-acre CCEC generating station project area. The second level was 1.5 mile buffer area around the CCEC generating station. The third level was an additional 2-mile radius beyond the 1.5-mile buffer, for a total buffer of 3.5 miles. Northland Archaeologist and Historian Gina Gage completed the records search in December 2016.
