VAFBM-2013-01: Cultural Resource Monitoring of Demolition of Three Communication Buildings, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Santa Barbara County, California

Year: 2013

Summary

This document is a letter report for the archaeological monitoring of the demolition of buildings 1958, 1982, and 1992. Background research revealed that archaeological sites CA-SBA-0759/H, -0512/513/941, and -0940 are recorded within or adjacent to the project work areas. The report provides brief details about the activities monitored and explains that no cultural material or intact soils were observed at Building 1992 or Building 1958. Previous and on-going activities unrelated to the demolition effort have impacted the soil at Building 1982 and therefore the 2-4 inches of soil disturbance related to demolition activity had no significant impact on the archaeological deposit located at this location. The recommendations conclude that no additional monitoring is required for any of the three demolition locations.
