New Geneva Pottery Waster and Dock Site (36FA404) 1995

Summary

The New Geneva Pottery Waster and Dock Site (36FA404) 1995 investigation in Monongahela River, Pennsylvania was contracted to John Milner Associates, Inc. and conducted over a period of two years. Excavations occurred in August and November of 1993. The principal investigators were Wade Catts, John McCarthy, and Thomas Johnson. The studies were by JMA, on behalf of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, as part of the Grays Landing Lock and Dam project. JMA studied and documented the impacts to known and previously unrecorded cultural resources at the construction zones of the replacement of the lock and dam at river mile 85, as well as the areas affected by a 15-foot pool rise between these structures. Field work consisted of both manual and mechanical excavated test units and trenches. Excavations during this project recovered artifacts associated with the Arthur Robbin's pottery (circa 1907-1914) (Wade et al. 1995).
