Creator(s): Adam Barnes
Year: 2006
Summary
The Puerta del Sol (Gateway of the Sun) is a large stone monolith at the archaeological site Tiwanaku in Bolivia. The gateway is believed to have been used to mark calendrical cycles. It was found inside the large Kalasasaya monument.
The Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST), University of Arkansas scanned the engraved frieze (top front portion) of the stone monolith. CAST researchers used a Konica Minolta VIVID 9i to collect scan data.
