Environment Research (Investigation Type)

These are studies that examine aspects of the present or past natural environment to provide a context, often off-site, for interpreting archaeological resources. Sometimes reported in stand-alone volumes representing significant research, such investigations may include geomorphological, paleontological, or palynological work.

DOCUMENT Full-Text Telmo Pereira.

This resource is an application for the Post PhD Research Grant from the Wenner-Gren Foundation. Effective Hydration Temperature and Relative Humidity Variation within the Nevada Test and Training Range, Southern Nevada (2006)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Jill Onken.

Many obsidian artifacts are found at archaeological sites within the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) and Nevada Test Site (NTS) because of the proximity of several geological sources of obsidian. These artifacts are datable using the obsidian hydration dating method, but effective hydration temperature (EHT) and relative humidity (rH) are significant extrinsic variables affecting hydration rates and, thus, age estimates of artifacts based on hydration rind thickness. Saline diffusion cells...

DOCUMENT Full-Text Diana Hadley. Richard V.N. Ahlstrom. Scott Mills.

The Bureau of Land Management is aware of the evidence for long-term human habitation along Bonita Creek. It has been said that, at times during the last century, Bonita Creek was home to perhaps dozens of families. Details of this period of occupation are, however, wanting. In addition, the town of Safford has been drawing substantial quantities of water from Bonita Creek for many years. How has this history of human use affected the environment of Bonita Creek? To answer this question, the...

DATASET Uploaded by: Andrew Zipkin

The results of each ablation performed on an ochre sample are presented in this table with elements in parts per million and oxides in percent weight, as measured by Homogenized Ochre Chip Laser Ablation-Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (HOC LA-ICPMS). *Mean FeO as percent weight Fe2O3+FeO was determined by Electron Microprobe Analysis of each ochre chip and was used as an internal standard for LA-ICPMS data reduction. Elements labeled in red should be excluded from statistical...
