Huayna Picchu is a large mountain that rises over Machu Picchu, on the north side of the site. The mountain's summit is terraced, and supports several structures. The Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST), University of Arkansas conducted high density surveys of Huayna Picchu in 2005. The current project, initiated by HQ AFMC (M. Tagg 2004) and funded through the Legacy Program (Legacy Project No. 04-211) as a continuation of the HQ AFMC historic context (Weitze 2003), seeks to identify and categorize RDT&E property types and subtypes and present them as an addition to the current Interim Guidance list. CRM and industrial archaeology both have methods on identifying and processing cultural resources, but CRM can provide valuable methods on preserving, reusing or identifying industrial heritage. This paper will display how CRM and industrial archaeology are needed together to fully understand the cultural importance and physical important of the building in the past and present.
