The purpose of this Archaeological Study is to evaluate the eligibility of CA-SBA-698 for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Based on midden characteristics observed on the surface and in exposed erosional profiles, the site is likely to contain information important to the understanding of prehistory and retain sufficient contextual integrity to qualify for listing.

A historic trash dump site was discovered by the City of Yuma while excavating a handicap access sidewalk for a washroom facility building below the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park and a City River Park. The excavation area is partially on City property and State Land (Arizona State Parks).
