Each field season, three summer camps are held: a camp for young adults, a camp for adults, and a camp for teachers. Sunset Crater Volcano is located in the pine forests of northern Arizona, approximately 20 km north of the city of Flagstaff. Approximately 600 acres of additional right-of-way in Reach 3 were surveyed in late 1983 and early 1984. Fourteen new sites were identified, of which nine received ASM site numbers. The remaining five sites were not given an ASM site number, but merit reevaluation for assignment of a site number.
