Summary

An intensive cultural resources survey was conducted at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado, in advance of proposed land acquisition adjacent to the present boundaries of the installation. From October 6–8, 2009, Geo-Marine, Inc., conducted an archaeological survey of 333 acres. One archaeological site with three loci was discovered during the survey. Site 5EP6394 is interpreted as the remains of a farmstead or outlying facilities related to a farmstead or ranch headquarters located elsewhere. The true nature of the loci or their functional relationship is not clear on the basis of the presently available information. It is recommended that site 5EP6394 is of unknown eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Additional archival research and limited archaeological investigations should be conducted to determine the functional context of the site, its association with particular persons, and its potential to contribute to our understanding of local history.
