Projectile Points, Potsherds, Horseshoes, and Hand Grenades Evidence of the Human Legacy on Holloman Air Force Base from a Cultural Resource Sample Survey, Otero County, New Mexico

Part of the Holloman Air Force Base Resources project

Year: 1999

Summary

The purpose of the project, initially, was to determine site densities by environmental zone for management purposes. By the time the first draft of the report was completed, all base lands had been inventoried. This forced a reorientation of the projects goals to a more settlement pattern based analysis. Such an analysis includes not only sites recorded during the sample survey, but also all recorded sites on HAFB. The intensive cultural resources survey conducted by HSR documented 83 previously unrecorded archaeological sites, and re-evaluated two previously recorded archaeological sites for a total of 85 sites.
