Three of the archaeological sites mitigated in connection with the 345kv Intermountain - Mona Line 1 were sampled for pollen. These three sites (42Md620, 42Md827, and 42Md828) are located in the northeastern portion of Millard County in western Utah. Palynological study of 18 samples, including 5 associated with Archaic Period radiocarbon dates and 1 associated with Fremont Culture artifacts, identifies a pollen sequence for the site. The inferred paleoclimatic sequence fully agrees with dated sequences from central New Mexico and the Llano Estacado (NM-TX).

A large collection of plant materials from various sites excavated along the Navajo Power Project Coal Haul Railroad was studied over a period of two years by Neal Lopinot. Most of the collections were examined before he left the St. Louis region to continue his graduate studies. Palynological investigations of eighteen soil samples were undertaken in conjunction with archaeological excavations at two sites in Emery County, Utah. These two sites (42EM959 and 42EM960) are small rockshelters located approximately 75 mile apart at an elevation of 6,750 ·feet in a pinyon/juniper woodland ecozone in central Utah. Two pollen samples were collected in connection with an archaeological mitigation project south of Rangely in Rio Blanco County, Colorado. The site, 5RB2636, consists of a prehistoric storage ciet, probably Fremont, located in the mouth of a small unnamed tributary of Park Canyon. Excavation of a series of overhangs in Emery County, Utah, known as the Cedar Siding Shelter (42EM1533) included pollen sampling.
