Multilayer Networks and Relational Plurality: The Scales and Sources of Social Capital across Southern Appalachia, A.D. 1150–1350 (2018)
DOCUMENT Citation Only Jacob Lulewicz.

The scale and structure of the relationships through which social capital is generated, amassed, and controlled must be understood if we are to evaluate the emergence and evolution of organizationally complex social, political, and economic institutions. At any one point in time however, actors or entities are undoubtedly embedded and engaged in a number of distinct, yet overlapping, relational fields. In this paper I interrogate three networks, representing three separate sets of relationships,...

Multimodal Diagnosis of Historic Baptistery di San Giovanni in Florence, Italy (2016)

A Multiplicity of Voices: Towards a Queer Field School Pedagogy (2015)
DOCUMENT Citation Only Erin C. Rodriguez.

A queer theory inspired perspective is valuable not only for broadening the scope of archaeological interpretation and our understanding of past lived experiences, but also for informing an archaeological pedagogy which expands the diversity of authoritative viewpoints in the discipline. Field schools, as one of the most central aspects of archaeological training, have the potential to either reaffirm heteronormative structures which obscure non-conforming persons and viewpoints or to promote...

A Multiscalar Analysis of Piedmont Village Tradition Settlement and Demography, 1200-1600 CE (2018)
DOCUMENT Citation Only Eric Jones.

This research uses settlement area of Piedmont Village Tradition (PVT) sites from the four major river valleys in the North Carolina Piedmont to describe demographic trends on multiple scales during 1200-1600 CE. It uses surface survey results and artifact styles to establish sizes and dates. Spatial data and radiometric dates from excavated sites in each valley are used to refine these data. Given the limitations of using surface survey data for estimating demographic characteristics, this work...

Multiscale Image Acquisition for Structure-from-Motion (SfM) Modeling of the Submerged Late Pleistocene Site of Hoyo Negro, Quintana, Mexico (2016)
DOCUMENT Citation Only Alberto E Nava Blank. Roberto R Chavez. Alejandro E Alvarez. Vid Petrovic. Dominique Rissolo. James C. Chatters. Joaquin Arroyo. Pilar Luna Erreguerena.

The submerged cave chamber of Hoyo Negro contains a diverse assemblage of human and faunal skeletal remains dating to the Late Pleistocene. Many of the represented animals became extinct at least 10,000 YBP. The human skeleton is that of a young girl who ventured into the cave at least 12,000 YBP. Most of these deposits are extraordinarily well preserved. Detailed recording of this chamber is difficult, as the site is completely dark and at maximum depth of 57m. Over the past two years, the team...

The Multivocality of Firearm Materials Among the Captive Africans of the Hume Plantation, Georgetown, South Carolina 1790s-1860s (2017)
DOCUMENT Citation Only Sharon Moses.

This paper will discuss firearm materials and related artifacts found in the slave quarter of the historic Hume Plantation, a rice producer in the South Carolina low country from the late eighteenth century until the Civil War. Due to the historical context of violent outbreaks in the region including a murder at a neighboring plantation, it would seem that firearms and materials that could be used for weaponry would be highly prohibited among the enslaved population. Furthermore, according to...
