The floated light fractions from 27 features at the Meland site (39DW165) and the Brams site (39ZB31) in northwestern South Dakota were examined for charcoal and other charred macrofloral remains. Six additional samples from 39ZB31 consist only of charcoal and/or other remains pulled from the floated light and heavy fractions. Diagnostic artifacts suggest that the Meland site has Late Plains Archaic and Late Prehistoric components, while the Brams site has Middle Plains Archaic (3000-1000...
