BULK SEDIMENT ANALYSIS AND AMS RADIOCARBON AGE DETERMINATION OF SAMPLES FROM THE TOPLIFF HILL SITE, TOOELE COUNTY, UTAH (2019)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings. Paul M. Miller.

The Topliff Fault is a north-trending fault zone in the Rush Valley of Tooele County, Utah. Geological research along the fault at the Topliff Hill Site aims to better understand prehistoric earthquakes. In association with ongoing research, samples were submitted for bulk sediment analysis and AMS radiocarbon age determination, with the goal of providing a timeline of earthquakes at the fault.

MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AND AMS RADIOCARBON AGE DETERMINATION OF SAMPLES FROM SITES 42To5283, UTG-08-JT, UTG-05-JD, BEAVER BOTTOMS, LAKE GUNNISON, 42To389, AND 42To4716, TOOELE COUNTY, UTAH (2018)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings.

Sites 42To5283, UTG-08-JT, UTG-05-JD, Beaver Bottoms, Lake Gunnison, 42To389, and 42To4716 are located in Tooele County, Utah. Six shell samples from Sites 42To5283, UTG-08-JT, UTG-05-JD, Beaver Bottoms, Lake Gunnison and one burned bone sample from 42To389 were submitted for AMS radiocarbon age determination. Sediment from a hearth feature fill from Site 42To4716 was submitted for macrofloral analysis and subsequent AMS radiocarbon age determination.

PROTEIN AND ORGANIC RESIDUE (FTIR) ANALYSIS OF CRESCENTS FROM THE DUGWAY PROVING GROUND AND SITE 42MD2620, UTAH (2009)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Chad Yost. Melissa K. Logan.

Three stone crescents were submitted for protein and organic residue analysis. Two of the crescents were found in the Older River Bed delta on the Dugway Proving Ground in Utah, and one was recovered from site 42MD2620 in the Cove Creek area in Utah. Crescents were tested for organic residues using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and protein residues using cross-over immunoelectrophoresis. The crescents are thought to have been used for harvesting cattail, and it is hoped...

PROTEIN RESIDUE ANALYSIS OF A CLOVIS BIFACE BASE FROM SITE 42TO5158, TOOELE COUNTY, UTAH (2012)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Chad Yost.

The fluted base of a Mahog obsidian Clovis biface recovered from site 42TO5158, Tooele County, Utah was submitted for protein residue analysis. The site is an open prehistoric artifact scatter situated on the extinct lakebed of Lake Bonneville. This analysis was undertaken to determine if protein residues derived from the use of the Clovis biface were present and identifiable.

PROTEIN RESIDUE ANALYSIS OF BLADE SCRAPERS FROM CLOVIS SITE 42TO3794, DUGWAY PROVING GROUND, CEDAR MOUNTAINS, UTAH (2010)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Chad Yost.

Eight blade scrapers made from chert material were submitted for protein residue analysis from site 42TO3794, which is situated within the Dugway Proving Ground, located in the Cedar Mountains of Utah. This site is reported as being a Clovis site, so testing of these tools included the Late-Pleistocene suite of animal antisera.

PROTEIN RESIDUE ANALYSIS OF FOUR CLOVIS POINTS FROM THE DUGWAY PROVING GROUND, DUGWAY, UTAH (2009)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Chad Yost.

Three Clovis projectile point bases and one projectile point tip were submitted for protein residue analysis. These artifacts were recovered from a site in the Cedar Mountains, within the U.S. Army’s Dugway Proving Ground in western Utah. This analysis will attempt to recover and identify any plant and animal protein residues that may be present on the surface of these tools.

PROTEIN RESIDUE ANALYSIS OF LITHICS FROM SITES 42TO3142, 42TO5561, 42TO5562, 42TO5564, ORB IO (DPGIF), AND EAST REDDEN 1 (ER-1), TOOELE COUNTY, UTAH (2014)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Jennifer L.B. Milligan. Linda Scott Cummings.

Six Paleoindian sites were recorded in the Old River Bed (ORB) area and the Redden Springs area of Dugway Proving Ground, Tooele County, Utah. These open artifact scatters contained lithic tools, flakes, and cores produced from a variety of materials including finegrained volcanic rock (obsidian or basalt), chert, limestone, and quartzite. Fifteen lithic tools and four sediment control samples from the sites were submitted for protein residue analysis.

PROTEIN RESIDUE ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM THE WISHBONE SITE (42To6384), TOOELE COUNTY, UTAH (2017)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings.

The Wishbone Site (42To6384) includes a buried flaked stone assemblage, accompanied by a hearth feature. A pooled mean of three radiocarbon dates (10,390 ± 21 BP) was obtained on willow charcoal. The site is situated on an open salt flat supporting sparse pickleweed/iodine bush (Allenrolfea occidentalis). Fourteen flaked lithics were submitted for protein residue analysis. Four sediment control samples were collected from the general site area and one location near an artifact.
