We demonstrate how the Keweenaw Time Traveler (KeTT), a web-accessible next-generation historical GIS, can be used to allow the public to contextualize and share overlapping concepts of place within the Copper Country, a...
Surf and Turf: Understanding Montaukett Economic Strategies through the Whaling Era (2015)
This paper explores the daily practices within two 19th century Native Algonquin households at Indian Fields, a Montaukett village in eastern Long Island, New York. Though geographically distant from the white settlements of East Hampton Town, the Montaukett residents of these households were intimately entangled in local and global economic activities and social networks. Their participation in whaling, seafaring, and agriculture, the dominant economic activities, often led to absences from...
Surface Archaeology as Site Assessment: The Haynie Site and the Northern Chaco Outliers Project (2017)
Crow Canyon Archaeological Center is beginning a multi-year project at the Haynie site, a Chaco outlier in the central Mesa Verde region of southwest Colorado. In 2016, the goal was to assess the spatial and temporal characteristics of Haynie through in-field analyses of pottery and chipped-stone artifacts from the surface. This was done via systematic dog-leash collection units placed across the site, as well as judgmental analysis of artifacts in disturbed contexts. Through analyses of...

Survey and Recovery and Analysis of Human Remains Along a Portion of an SRP Lateral in Greenwood Cemetery, Phoenix, Arizona
The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) identified a possible prehistoric Hohokam cremation eroding from the bank of an unlined Salt River Project (SRP) irrigation lateral that traverses a modern cemetery in central Phoenix. It was thought that two additional burial pits might be present in the lateral, but only the above-mentioned possible cremation was currently affected by erosion. The possible burial was discovered earlier in the year and was monitored by a Reclamation archaeologist while...

The City of Phoenix Archaeology Office requested that this land be re-surveyed and that the location of site AZ T:8:53(ASU) be examined due to its proximity to the APE.
Survey in the York-Duncan Valley, Arizona: Understanding Patterns of Mogollon Population Aggregation and Dispersal (2017)
This research project examines prehistoric population aggregation and abandonment processes by analyzing how communities in Arizona’s York-Duncan Valley nucleated, and then dispersed in or abandoned the region from the end of the Early Agricultural period to the Salado period. The Upper Gila River Valley offers a unique opportunity to understand these dynamics. The research explores the interplay of ecological and demographic pressures within a resilience theoretical framework. I suggest that...
