The central highlands of Irian Jaya are one of the last regions on earth, where stone adzes were part of people's everyday lives. The author learns a lot about stone adzes from the locals during his travels to the villages of Kimyal from 1989 to 1996, and considers his insights to be potentially interesting to experimental archaeologists. The author describes the construction of the adzes and searches for the source of the raw material for blades within the Kimyal area.
