Fill from a deflated rock-filled thermal basin at site 42GR1014 in far east-central Utah was submitted for organic residue analysis. This sample was tested for organic residues using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). FTIR analysis provides information concerning the compounds that were extracted from the fill sample. Information concerning foods that might have been processed in association with thermal features is derived from matches with our reference library of processed plants...


POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF A SINGLE HEARTH FEATURE AT SITE 42EM2817, UTAH (2002)

Fill from a single, isolated hearth at site 42EM2817 in east-central Utah was examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. This hearth feature was discovered during monitoring of an oil and gas development project in Huntington Canyon. A Fremont habitation site (42EM2808) is located 40 m from the hearth. Pollen and macrofloral analyses are used to provide information concerning plant resources processed in this hearth.
