Charcoal collected from a charcoal lens exposed in a shovel test next to a dirt access road for the Lanai Wind Farm Project on the island of Lanai, Hawaii, was submitted for identification. This charcoal lens might represent a native Hawaiian occupation. Charcoal was identified to determine what type of wood was burned.
POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM THE PALAWAI 9 PROJECT, LANAI ISLAND, MAUI COUNTY, HAWAII (2013)
The Palawai 9 project area is situated on Manele Bay of Lanai Island within Maui County, Hawaii. Two samples from a possible agricultural mound and a terrace of unknown function at Site T-06112013-1 were submitted for pollen and phytolith analysis. Analysis was undertaken to address use of the mound and terrace and to help determine if either represents pre-contact Hawaiian occupation.
