The resource document was produced in response to the preparation of an LEIS for the Nellis Air Force Range Renewal, Nevada. The consultation focused specifically on the proposed action and alternatives concerning the future renewal of the NAFR. However, the present CGTO's response to this consultation is not limited to the LEIS, but also integrates relevant recommendations and insights made by Indian people based on previous and existing federal projects in which American Indians participated.
An Inventory of 70 Acres for Box Canyon Storage Area, Range 63, Clark County, Nevada Test and Training Range (2007)
98th Range Wing (99 RANS), Nellis Air Force Base (NAFB), proposes expansion of an existing outdoor storage area in a pass in the south hills of the Pintwater Range. A 30-acre area was surveyed and used in 1998. Activities at Creech Air Force Base have dramatically increased. The addition would include storage of construction equipment and target vehicles. The Box Canyon Road gravel road bisects the project area. The storage addition is 70 acres and is the Area of Potential Effect (APE).
Paleontology and Fossils on the Nellis Air Force Base Military Training Lands (2013)
A systematic analysis of the dry lake systems on the Nevada Test and Training Range, managed by Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada was completed in 2010 by Robert Dickerson. Range 65 Tank Training Facility (1987)
On November 19, 1987, a cultural resource inventory was begun on Range 65 for a tank training facility. The project was initiated by the National Guard in an area which has been previously utilized for tank training exercises by the National Guard and the Air Force for a period exceeding 15 years.
Results of Archaeological Survey and Site Investigations for Year 2, Pintwater Cave Area Archaeological Research Program (1997)
The Treatment Plan identified three research issues as vital for adequate scientific understanding of the prehistory and paleoenvironments of Pintwater Cave and the vicinity: (1) the meaning of variability seen in southern Nevada dart points; ( 2) local effects of climatic variability on human occupation; and (3) Archaic period subsistence.
