Arizona State Parks has completed archaeological monitoring for excavations associated with park improvements at Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park, Yuma, Arizona. Excavations consisted of footings for a guard rail and a trench for an electricity line. A large collection of plant materials from various sites excavated along the Navajo Power Project Coal Haul Railroad was studied over a period of two years by Neal Lopinot. Most of the collections were examined before he left the St. Louis region to continue his graduate studies. Summaries of his data and comparisons with materials from other sites have been prepared by Hugh Cutler. The file includes related correspondence.

Samples from features at several sites on the Sanchez Copper Data Recovery Project area in southeastern Arizona were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. In addition, two stone knives with fibrous plant materials adhering to them were submitted to identify the type of fibers present. These knives are believed to have been used for slicing agave. The City of Phoenix (COP) Street Transportation Department (STD) is conducting road and storm drain improvements. The project will require the relocation of an existing Salt River Project (SRP) irrigation line, located on U.S. Bureau of Reclamation land.
