Agricultural Sustainability and Environmental Change at Ancient Gordion
This book publishes the results of 220 botanical samples from the 1993–2002 Gordion excavations directed by Mary Voigt. Together with Naomi Miller’s 2010 volume (Gordion Special Studies 5), this book completes the publication of botanical samples from Voigt’s excavations. The book aims to reconstruct agricultural decision making using archaeological and paleoenvironmental data from Gordion to describe environmental and agricultural changes at the site. Agriculture, Mobility, and Human Impact in the Mimbres Region of the United States Southwest (2006)
The relationships among land use, population, and environment are not simple. Larger populations impact the environment more than do smaller populations, and environmental marginality promotes greater impacts from human action. While these two statements may be correct at a broad scale, the relationships are not linear. We examine the relationships among these variables using data from eleventh- through thirteenth-century villages and hamlets of prehistoric subsistence agriculturalists from the...

Akins_Northern Rio Grande_Paper_Exploring Mortuary Variability in the Northern Rio Grande (2011)
The Pueblo Indians who live in the Northern Rio Grande belong to several distinct linguistic groups and their cultural differences may be reflected in past burial practices. With a few notable exceptions, much of the older data on Northern Rio Grande burials is presented as summaries without regards to age or sex and without definitions of exactly what is meant by the terms used to describe even basic treatment such as orientation and body position. Thus, the typical level of reporting is...
