The White Lakes Drop Zone Survey: A Cultural Resource Survey for an Aerial Drop Zone for Kirtland Air Force Base along US 285 near White Lakes, New Mexico (2005)
Between January and March 2005, a cultural resource survey was conducted on state owned land along US 285 in south Santa Fe County near White Lakes, New Mexico. The survey was completed under the request of Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. These files contain correspondence with landowner Mr. John J. Golembeski. There are three letters written to Mr. Golembeski: one dated April 11, 1977, asking for permission to carry out excavations on the land surrounding the rock shelter; one dated August 22, 1977, giving him an update on the findings of the 1977 field school; and one dated May 31, 1978, asking for his permission to carry out excavations again.

Whitehall Rock Shelter (11716)
The landowner was Mr. John J. Golembeski at the time. The rock shelter at Whitehall was excavated over two years (1977-78). This spot was ideal because 10,000 years ago after the glacial ice cleared this area was most likely a migratory route for caribou.
