Site 23DU227, located in Dunklin County, southeastern Missouri, is situated in a present-day soybean field. The area surrounding the site includes, in addition to the fields, a man-made irrigation ditch (Ditch 19) and Crowley's Ridge, which is covered with an oak-hickory complex. This forested ridge supports an assortment of broadleaf trees including white oak, northern red oak, chinquapin oak, walnut, butternut, beech, tulip tree, cucumber tree, basswood, and cedar.
