Pollen and phytolith samples were examined from selected deposits at three sites in France to examine recovery and state of preservation. La Tureau de L'Abime is an Iron Age burial mound with an age of about 800 BC. Samples from Uxeau represent part of a medieval moat or perimeter defense around the fortified priory of Uxeau during the tenth or eleventh century AD.
