Site 48WA893 is located in the south-central section of the Bighorn Basin in northern Wyoming. The site is situated within the grassland ecotone and was discovered in the borrow pit of a dirt road. The site consists of a living surface containing four hearths, a fire-cracked rock feature, and dispersed heat altered stones. Pollen/starch, phytolith, and macrofloral samples were removed from the fill of three fire features at site LA138576 in southeast New Mexico, while pollen/starch and phytolith samples were collected from sediment scrapes at the edge of two of the hearths and from the surface as a control sample.
