An Analysis of the Archaeological Remains at Fort Halifax Park (2015)
DOCUMENT Citation Only Amanda Rasmussen.

Fort Halifax, located in Halifax Township, Pennsylvania, was occupied from 1756 to 1757 during the French and Indian War. Fort Halifax Township Park, where the fort is believed to be located, contains rich expanses of prehistoric and historic archaeological data. Since the Fort Halifax Park contains information regarding several occupations, the collected archaeological data has been useful in identifying the spatial relationships between occupations. This data, when further analyzed through the...

Automation of Bayesian Chronology Construction Using a Graph Theoretic Approach (2021)
DOCUMENT Citation Only Bryony Moody. Caitlin Buck. Tom Dye. Keith May. Gianna Ayala.

This is an abstract from the "Constructing Chronologies I: Stratification and Correlation" session, at the 86th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. This paper discusses developing prototype software for handling the relative and absolute dating evidence obtained during single context excavations as carried out in many European countries such as the UK. We seek to use mathematical graph theory to manage both stratigraphic and chronological information during Bayesian...

Estimating the Effect of Endogenous Spatial Dependency with a Hierarchical Bayesian CAR Model on Archaeological Site Location Data (2019)
DOCUMENT Citation Only Matthew Harris. Mary Lennon.

This is an abstract from the "Novel Statistical Techniques in Archaeology II (QUANTARCH II)" session, at the 84th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. This research presents a method to test the endogenous spatial correlation effect when modeling the landscape sensitivity for archaeological sites. The effects of endogenous spatial correlation are inferred using a Hierarchical Bayesian model with an Conditional Auto-Regressive (CAR) component to better understand the...

Modelling Village Development in the Prince Rupert Harbour (2015)
DOCUMENT Citation Only Kevan Edinborough.

The initial results of a radiocarbon local marine reservoir correction study are presented for Prince Rupert Harbor in northern British Columbia, Canada. These preliminary results are integrated into a series of Bayesian age-depth models that illustrate how shell-midden accumulation rates can dramatically vary. Village development in the harbor is discussed in the light of these new findings. SAA 2015 abstracts made available in tDAR courtesy of the Society for American Archaeology and Center...

Redating the Jones-Miller Site: Multiple Hell Gap (2023)
DOCUMENT Citation Only Carlton Shield Chief Gover. Christina Ryder. Erick Robinson. Kathryn Reusch. Stephen Nash.

This is an abstract from the "Late Pleistocene Stemmed Points across North America: Continental Questions and Regional Concerns" session, at the 88th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. The Jones-Miller Bison Kill site was excavated in the early 1970s is dated to approximately 8000 BCE. The age of the site was initially represented by only four radiocarbon dates, only one of which was from the bison bone bed while the remainder came from charcoal samples associated with...
