Excavation of an 11th Century Living Surface Buried Underneath a 19th Century Railroad Bed (2015)

Often construction of transportation features from the 19th Century or later is considered to be destructive to earlier archaeological components. The excavation of an 11th Century site in north central Alabama has demonstrated that a 19th Century railroad bed has enhanced preservation of several features that preceded its construction by 800 years.
