Mississippian archaeology displays a longstanding bias towards the study of large, mound-bearing sites. Studies of small, "hinterland" sites that lack mounds are relatively uncommon. Our research addresses this problem through a study of flaked stone tool technological organization at South Cape, a Mississippian hinterland site (23CG8) that is located in southeast Missouri and does not contain mounds.
