This paper examines two ends of the geographic spectrum along which the production of space can be expected to vary within the dynamics of colonial expansion. Employing case studies from Bermuda and the French colonial frontier, we analyze emerging border zones of the colonizer and the colonized, and the boundaries resulting from the replication of a persistent localism from the homeland.
