In his 1849 autobiography, Josiah Henson, a former slave, preacher, and conductor on the Underground Railroad, recounted a single, brutal event that occurred at La Grange, the plantation on which he was born. This is an abstract from the session entitled "Bridging Connections and Communities: 19th-Century Black Settlement in North America" , at the 2020 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
