The Camata-Carijana Valley is situated on the eastern frontier of the Inka Empire in the Kallawaya domain. Ethnohistorical accounts state the valley was occupied by the Kallawaya and Chuncho groups from the tropical piedmont (Saignes 1984, 1985; Steward 1948). Therefore, the Camata-Carijana Valley offers the opportunity to study Inka, Kallawaya, and Chuncho entanglements through time.
