In 1978, Kirtland Air Force Base began a continuing program to locate, record, and assess the relative importance of all archaeological sites at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. This action was prompted by executive order 11593, for the "Protection and Enhancement of the Cultural Environment" and Public Law 93-291, also known as the Archaeological and Historic Preservation Act of 1974.
