In April 2004, Richard Bryant monitored trenching operations along Diamond Creek Way in the Fort D. A. Russell National Historic Landmark. The trench is about 24 inches wide and four feet deep. The trench begins on the south edge of Diamond Creek Way just north of Building 355 and runs east along the road, then turns southeast and runs to the west side of Building 356. No artifacts related to 48-LA-71DD or the POW occupation of the area were found.
