A Clovis projectile point from Site 13WD101 in Sioux City, Iowa, was analyzed for possible protein residues. This projectile point had a calcium carbonate encrustation that was removed prior to protein residue analysis and was examined for pollen to identify any pollen and/or phytoliths that might represent vegetation at the time the calcium carbonates formed on the tool.
