During the late fall of 1994 and the early spring of 1995, Phase I and Phase II archaeological surveys were conducted at Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area, Kure Beach, New Hanover County, North Carolina. During the course of the background research, it was determined that control of a sizeable portion of the recreation area first described in the Scope-of-Work (150 acres ±) had reverted to the United States Army, leaving just over 100 acres to be studied.
