Fauna from Gileodabeshta 2 - ageing (fauna)
DATASET Mary Prendergast.

Age data, following Silver (1969), from non-intrusive postcranial remains of domesticates at Gileodabeshta 2, Units 4 and 5 combined. Proximal metapodials and distal phalanges are excluded since these fused in the womb, and no unfused specimens were documented. I = infant; I/J = infant or juvenile; J = juvenile; J/A+ = juvenile or adult or older; A+ = adult or older

Gileodabeshta 2 excavations, Lake Eyasi, Tanzania
PROJECT Uploaded by: Mary Prendergast

Gileodabeshta is located at 1035 m asl in open grasslands, near where the Matete River runs into Lake Eyasi (which lies at ca. 1000 m asl). It is very close to Ishimijega Shelter (Mehlman 1989). Gileodabeshta was originally called "Matete-Streminsel Fundstelle" or "Flussinsel im Matete" by Kohl-Larsen (1943) and was called "Matete River Site" by Mehlman (1989). It was surface-collected by Kohl-Larsen, and Mehlman studied the collections and identified mainly SPN-Narosura pottery as well as some...

Jangwani 2 excavations, Lake Eyasi basin, Tanzania
PROJECT Uploaded by: Mary Prendergast

Jangwani is a large open-air site or series of sites near the shores of Lake Eyasi, south of Mumba Rockshelter. The area was surveyed (surface collections only) by Kohl-Larsen (1943) and one site was named Wochenend Fundstelle (Weekend Site), renamed Jangwani 1 by Mehlman (1989), who excavated it. Gifford-Gonzalez (in Mehlman 1989) analyzed the fauna from J1. Kohl-Larsen also surveyed "Njoroan Fundstelle" (Njoroan Site), renamed Jangwani 2 by Mehlman, who did not excavate it. The late Charles...

Mumba Rockshelter (Tanzania) re-excavation
PROJECT Uploaded by: Mary Prendergast

Mumba Rockshelter is located in Mang'ola Basin, at ca. 1046 m asl, about 2.3 km from the current shore of Lake Eyasi (which is dry most of the year). It is found in a series of inselbergs (containing several other shelters) called the Laghang-Ishimijega hills, running parallel to the lake. The shelter contains rock paintings documented by L. Kohl-Larsen (1943). It was excavated in 1934-36 and a very large "test" excavation was led by M. Kohl-Larsen in 1938 (L. Kohl-Larsen 1943, Müller-Beck...
