Spain's first contact with Pecos Pueblo occurred in 1541 when Francisco Coronado besiege the site. Formal trade began about 1590 and continued until the Pueblo was abandoned in the 1830s. Spain's entrada in northern New Mexico superceded a vibrant trade with the Plains Apached and Comanche that had been on-going for over 150 years prior to contact.
