Pend Oreille City was a steamboat landing town and one of the earliest settlements in North Idaho. From roughly 1866 to 1880, it served as a waypoint through the Idaho panhandle for travelers during early Euroamerican settlement of the region. As with many frontier towns, Pend Oreille City faded.
