Archaeological Sampling in the Kawich Range, Nellis Air Force Base (1996)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Elena Nilsson.

Predictive site location modeling and sample survey conducted in the Kawich Range of the Central Great Basin resulted in the identification of over 200 largely pristine archaeological sites containing a diversity of features and artifacts. Identified sites range in age from the Pre-Archaic to the Ethnohistoric period. Site distribution patterns correlate well with the predictions of the model and, together with information shared by Native American participants, serve to document the extensive...

Assessing the Relationship between Vegetation Zones and Archaeology on the Nevada Test and Training Range (2008)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Marcus P. Grant. Sherri Wenzlau.

Geo-Marine, Inc., Las Vegas, Nevada, conducted intensive cultural resources inventories on 10,624 acres and an experimental inventory on an additional 2,220 acres near Black Mountain (for a grand total of 12,844 acres) within the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR). As a result of this effort, 143 archaeological sites were recorded; an additional 41 site locations were noted but not fully recorded during experimental inventories in the Black Mountain area.

EC South Range Archaeological Characterization Nevada Test and Training Range (2009)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Michael Cook. Marcus Grant. Eric Hansen. Richard Arnold. Sherri Wenzlau. Robert Dickerson.

Geo-Marine, Inc., conducted archaeological inventory of 6,989 acres on EC South Range, part of the Nellis Test and Training Range. The primary goal of the project was to integrate empirical data, including associations of features and material culture with potential sacred significance, and ethnographic data to characterize the archaeological resources of EC South Range. Ethnographic data were provided by Native American crew members during fieldwork. The project addressed requirements under...

An Ethnoarchaeological Survey of West Pahute Mesa, Nevada Test and Training Range (2002)
DOCUMENT Full-Text John W. Hohmann.

The results of this survey is the first attempt to create such a model which attempts to empirically identify, measure, analyze, and then interpret the cultural resources discovered within a portion of the south-central Great Basin region. This survey will be undertaken within an ethnoarchaeological approach.

Kawich Range Stratified Archaeological Sampling Project: Predictive Model and Sampling Design (1999)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Michael S. Kelly. Kathleen L. Hull. W. G. Spaulding. Elena Nilsson. Christopher L. Harper. Russell Bevill. Suzan F. Rose.

The Kawich Range is considered one of the least explored and most pristine mountain ranges in the Great Basin, part of 3.1 million acres withdrawn from public access in 1940s by the Department of Defense. Dames & Moore, under contract to Prewitt & Associates, was selected by Nellis Air Force Base to perform archaeological inventory and recordation of a 5,000-acre sample of the Kawich Range. The three phases of this project include: (1) preparation of a predictive model and research design; (2)...
