The Fort A.P. Hill Cultural Resource Manager, under the Environmental Division of the Directorate of Public Works within Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, has completed Phase I archaeological survey in association with proposed tree removal at the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security, Fort A.P. Hill, Caroline County, Virginia. The proposed tree removal will include pine thinning in the vicinity of the existing DPTMS facilities and grubbing along A.P. Hill Drive. The Area of Potential Effect for the project includes five sections that total approximately 1.45 hectares (3.58 acres).
The objective of the archaeological survey was to identify any historic properties that may be located within the APE and evaluate the potential eligibility of any such resources for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. The survey included pedestrian surface survey and the excavation of shovel tests. No archaeological sites, artifacts, cultural features, or cultural deposits were encountered during the survey.
