Archaeological Assessment of Huntington Reservoir 1982-1983
Part of: US Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District VCP
A pedestrian reconnaissance survey led by William Wepler and Donald Cochran was conducted at the Huntington Reservoir between the fall of 1982 and winter of 1983. This survey took place along the Upper Wabash drainage in Huntington and Well counties. The survey was performed in two parts; first as an in-field survey above the level of the summer pool, which was oriented toward the cultivated areas, and second as a shoreline survey oriented towards the eroded areas. The investigation was performed to: identify the archaeological resources within the Huntington Reservoir area, to determine the impact of the reservoir on those resources, and to initiate the development of predictions to the prehistory of the area and to manage its cultural resources (Wepler and Cochran 1983: 33).
While processing, dates of collection that did not match the years of investigation were found associated with some of the artifacts. These included the following years 1977, 1986, and 1989, it was decided to keep these artifacts with the Archaeological Assessment of Huntington Reservoir 1982–1983 investigation.
The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP), and include the investigation report, select artifact photographs, finding aid, scanned asset key, artifact report, artifact database and a document folder listing. Additional digital materials held by the VCP include additional artifact photographs and correspondence (the latter includes a key from Huntington Lake Shoreline Survey). For additional information on these materials, refer to the Finding Aid.
