Wabash Grant Huntington County (12HU1299-12HU1315) 2008
Part of: US Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District VCP
Normally, the VCP only processes USACE collections. The artifacts for Wabash Grant Huntington County (12HU1299–12HU1315) 2008 were originally thought to be USACE owned. The artifacts were processed at the VCP. Later communications between Ball State University collections manager, Christine Keller, Louisville District archaeologist, Jan Marie Hemberger, and MCX CMAC collections manager, Cathy Van Arsdale confirmed that this investigation was not owned by USACE. The investigation was related and adjacent to a USACE property, resulting in the confusion that led the VCP to receive the collection. No archives were associated with this investigation so specific background information about the project and fieldwork cannot be given.
“Ball State University’s Department of Anthropology received a $40,412 grant to conduct an archaeological survey of 900 acres in the upper Wabash River Valley to record threatened archaeological resources, do a survey of mound sites in the southern half of the drainage basin, and document three mounts at Roush Lake in order to nominate them to the State and National Registers” [Johnson 2008].
The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP), and include select artifact photographs, an artifact report, and an artifact database. Additional digital materials held by the VCP include bag labels, box labels, and additional artifact photographs. For additional information on these materials, refer to the Finding Aid.
