Artifact Database, 1GR2 Craigs Landing Site N.D.
Summary
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District archaeological collections were sent to the Veterans Curation Program’s (VCP) Augusta laboratory in April of 2014. The Augusta VCP laboratory is a USACE, St. Louis District’s Mandatory Center of Expertise for the Curation and Management of Archaeological Collections program, which was staffed through New South Associates, Inc. (NSA), an archaeological contract firm located in Stone Mountain, Georgia between April of 2014 and April of 2015. Between April and October of 2015 the program was staffed through Cogstone-Berger JV, an archaeological contract firm located in Orange, California. Beginning in mid-October, 2015, the program was staffed by ERG-NSA JV, a joint venture between Environmental Research Group (ERG) of Baltimore, Maryland, and New South Associates, Inc., headquartered in Stone Mountain, Georgia. The procedures employed to sort and re-house the archaeological material from the 1GR2 Craigs Landing Site N.D. investigation are discussed below and follow the standard protocols utilized by the Augusta VCP laboratory. In the re-housing process of each investigative effort of the USACE, Mobile District collection, the same standard procedures and Cobb Institute of Archaeology guidelines were followed. Upon completion of the curation management project, the collection was sent to the Cobb Institute of Archaeology at Mississippi State University (MSU) for permanent curation.
